Parents need all the help they can get

Kid’s Rock Band ‘Kids4Life’ make obesity a shrinking issue
The Prime Minister has stated that “Obesity is the responsibility of the individual, and
in the case of children, their parents.” If John Howard isn’t offering any assistance,
then parents are going to need all the help they can get.
Currently, almost a quarter of all Australian children and teenagers are overweight or obese.
The best remedy for fighting fat – in adults or children – will always be a healthy diet and exercise. So why are kids becoming obese? Children spend a lot of time playing computer games, watching television, and eating fatty snacks like chips and chocolate, instead of playing outside and eating nutritious meals. Further, a fear of crime and 'stranger danger' has led many parents to keep their kids indoors when not able to be observed. When both parents work, children often have little supervision after school; no-one to turn off the television and take them to a sporting activity or for a run in the park. And with half the food commercials on television aimed at children spruiking high fat, sugary foods, it’s little wonder that childhood obesity is spiraling out of control.
Aussie girls Bex and Joey of highly successful kid’s rock band Kids4Life (or K4L) have decided to do something about it. Geared towards 3 - 9 year olds, Kids4Life’s music, DVD and live shows are all about promoting the skills kids need for life. Through cool, top 40 chart styled music and ultra modern moves and grooves, K4L's Bex & Joey keep kids dancing, singing and interactive, while teaching them about maintaining a healthy self esteem, good nutrition, active lifestyles, goal setting and music. But most of all K4L teach kids to enjoy being a kid, to have fun, and stay active.
Kids4Life are educating as many children worldwide as possible about the amazing effects of positive life choices. In doing this, they aim to contribute to decreasing the advent of many childhood lifestyle diseases such as obesity, depression and ADHD. This will hopefully lead to healthier teenagers who can go on to lead a happy life.
Kids4Life are also on the offensive against large corporations that use screensavers and interactive websites to market junk food to children. Launching their ‘super-sized’ website (
http://www.kids4life.com.au/), K4L’s site offers just as much fun and appeal - packed with games, free downloads and a cool Kids Crew Competitions - but crammed with sneakily health-educational messages.

“By making healthy eating and exercise fun and exciting for them, the kids will want to put it into practice. And if children really want to be watching television, then put one of our DVDs on; as not only can they learn about positive eating and lifestyle choices, all of the songs are fully interactive and extremely cool” says Bex. "As kids watch our DVD, they love jumping around to the dance moves of our chart-styled music video clips, little do they realise they are exercising at the same time!” says Joey. Both girls agree that the most satisfying part of their job is being able to help kids learn how to lead a healthier, longer life.

By making positive lifestyle choices fun for children and easy for parents, and by helping health changes to occur at a societal as well as an individual level, Kids4Life hope to make obesity a shrinking issue.
